Pepe Wismeer ...
... are a band, not a person, comprising:
Anne-Laure Therme
Damien Van Lede
They have been making music together since 1999 and hail from the Ardennes region of France.
The music often moves with patient strides, sometimes swelling to sudden crescendos, accompanied by electronic scrapes and coughs. A slightly damaged, spare, chamber folk-psych, whose distant cousins can be found in the darkly tender moments infused in early Psychic TV/Current 93/Coil, or in the atmospheric postures of Antony & the Johnsons.
The music is mainly structured around piano and voice accompanied by electric-acoustic guitar, 5-string bass, concrete sounds, samples, oud, sitar, metallophone … and maybe some sheep & birds & water & glass. All music recorded on analogue equipment to add warmth and handcraft to the icy atmospheres.
The band have an extensive discography including several CD-Rs, a vinyl LP titled “Ligloal” and a remix on the Nurse With Wound “Two Shaves and a Shine” project (Janana Records, 2008).
CDr E.P comes in it's own picture sleeve with a numbered photographic insert. The LP itself has been cut with track marks at regular time intervals - that do not correspond to the actual tracks themselves (termed by Throbbing Gristle as a "DJ-confusion cut" - they did the same for a limited run of their 2nd LP "D.O.A.").
