Jump 2 Funk (a/k/a Jump-II-Funk)
  Biog
  This duo came from Southend-on-Sea (Essex, UK) and delivered 11 no-nonsense house & techno anthems that took the club scene by storm which eventually resulted in them landing them a contract with Peach Records (a subsidiary of massive PWL International empire, Pete Waterman's own record label - he of the Stock, Aitken & Waterman fame, an incredible hit factory in the 1980's and early 1990's). As was the norm for the time the duo initially worked under a number of pseudonyms, namely: Dr. Skuf, Skuf, Funk Freak, The Skunk Klub, The Skunk Club, The Herb Superb, Jump 2 Funk and Jump-II-Funk as well as an anonymous debit release. The core band members were:
  • Phil Wiltshire :: Programming / Rhythms
  • Rick Owen :: Rhythms / Programming
They occassionally worked with other contributors and local dance producers such as Sandman and A. Carter. Most of their self-released records were under the Vinyl Rhythm banner (a name and logo lent to them by Adam - the owner of the local dance record shop of the same name), however they did produce a couple of records under another self-financed label Squelch Records. These 2nd release on this label (see Release #09 in the discography below) was characterized by a snazzy luminous green picture sleeves with a computer-generated generated image of the label's logo (designed by Lee Framer of Thinkin Positive).

The duo were featured in a dance magazine and had publicity shots taken off the beach on Southendsea front, however these cannot be located, sadly.

Their final release was the Higher Times E.P. (Release #11 in the discography) was fraught with problems, the most obvious of which was the labels for the B-Side kept falling off the press due to the printer (who had a drug problem) punching holes that were too big to set on the upper record press (they kept falling off) - resulting in only white labels on the B-side. The "E.P." was also meant to have a rather good 11min Tangerine Dream/Orb-like sequenced track on the B-side - however the master for this was mislaid on the day of the cut hence what would have been a pretty long E.P. record turned out to be just a single. A somewhat less-than celubrious end to an otherwise quite distinguished dance-music career.

Phil Wiltshire (who was very much the more musical-minded of the duo and a talented bass player) went on to play bass with local phenomenon Turtle Soup ("oh-so-close" to getting a proper record deal but it just wasn't to be - sadly as they were an excellent live outfit) and then went on to play with Chenko. Rick Owen gave up music to return to his primary occupation: building.
